Answers to questions #3 and #4
Here's how this technique works.
For question #3, you have three
fractions, so eliminate the two
integers. Since there are three
negative answers and two positive
ones, pick a negative answer. You
are now down to B and C. Since
there are two answers that involve
2/7 and one of them is negative,
pick C. Another way to look at
this last step is to see that two
of the three fractions involve
sevenths.
For #4, E is the only one with a
"7" in the first coefficient and a
"6" in the second. Get rid of it.
Get rid of A since it is the only
one that starts out with a
negative initial value. Since
three answers are a variable PLUS
another variable and only two are
MINUS, get rid of D. Finally,
three of the first terms are
squares, so pick C.
Keep in mind this isn't a perfect
technique but it will improve your
odds of guessing right and produce
results until the ACT changes
their ways. Please don't tell
them!
